JMHO, but with the later hydro tensioner/roller chain setup, there is really no need for gear drive cams; the later OEM setup works very well.
WebDec 14, 2012 · Spot welding the outside edge of the crank pin to the fly wheels prevents this. It doesn't make power, it provides durability. It takes less than .015" runout to start to prematurely wear the oil pump, which runs directly off the crank. The .015" is the HD max limit, according to their specs. To me, this is waaaay too much. At this point I have lapped the shafts to the wheels and got a good matte pattern on all the tapers.
WebMay 30, 2013 · Internet or no, flywheel shift is a real problem. I know several people I ride with who have lost the bottom end of their twin cam engine because of flywheel shift. One guy is on his 3rd bottom end (~150k miles). Ignorance is bliss. If I had not measured the runout I would not know how bad it is until the day the oil light comes on...
